Trump Approves Iran War Following Netanyahu’s Persuasive Pitch—Report

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump decided to authorize military action against Iran largely guided by his instincts and an assertive briefing from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while his closest advisers offered minimal resistance despite clear warnings from intelligence agencies, according to reports.

On February 11, Netanyahu presented his case to Trump, claiming Iran was "ripe for regime change" and suggesting that a coordinated campaign could topple the government within weeks.

He assured that Iran’s missile program would be swiftly neutralized, the Strait of Hormuz would remain accessible, and US interests would face minimal retaliation. He also mentioned that Mossad would provoke internal dissent to "finish the job," and displayed a video highlighting potential Iranian leaders, including Reza Pahlavi, the eldest son of Iran’s former shah.

Trump’s immediate reaction was positive. "Sounds good to me," he told Netanyahu.

The following day, US intelligence officials pushed back. CIA Director John Ratcliffe described the proposed regime-change scenarios with a single word: "farcical." Analysts assessed that an internal uprising was highly unlikely. When these doubts were raised to Trump, he dismissed them, stating that regime change was "their problem."

Even when warned that Iran might close the Strait of Hormuz, Trump downplayed the risk, assuming that Tehran would yield before taking such drastic steps.
