Pakistan’s Army Chief Visits Tehran
(MENAFN) Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, traveled to Tehran on Friday as part of continued diplomatic efforts aimed at helping resolve the ongoing conflict. The war reportedly started on Feb. 28 after Israel and the United States carried out military strikes against Iran.
Field Marshal Asim Munir’s arrival in the Iranian capital was connected to broader mediation initiatives, according to Iran’s state media. A news agency reported, citing the Pakistan Army, that he reached Tehran as part of these efforts. The agency also stated, "On arrival, he was received and warmly welcomed by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni," it added.
It further noted that "Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was also present at the reception," according to the news agency.
This marks Munir’s second visit to Tehran during Pakistan’s ongoing attempts to mediate an end to the conflict that erupted on Feb. 28 following Israeli and US airstrikes on Iran.
During his stay in Iran, Pakistani sources indicated that Munir is expected to engage in discussions covering Iran–US negotiations, regional security, stability, and other "important issues." However, the sources did not provide any information regarding how long the visit will last.
Separately, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has already been in Tehran for the past two days, participating in indirect dialogue efforts between Washington and Tehran. Munir had also previously visited the Iranian capital for three days last month, during which he met both civilian officials and senior military leadership.
