Beijing Pledges to Block Any Moves to Separate Taiwan from China

(MENAFN) Beijing issued a firm warning on Monday, asserting it will “never allow anyone or any force to separate” Taiwan from China, intensifying its long-standing position on the self-governed island that lies across the Taiwan Strait.

The statement came in response to recent claims by U.S. President Donald Trump, who said Chinese President Xi Jinping had personally assured him that China "will not invade" Taiwan while Trump remains in office.

Reiterating Beijing’s stance, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning told reporters, “Taiwan is inalienable part of China and the Taiwan question is an internal affair of China, and how to resolve the Taiwan issue is a matter for the Chinese people.” She emphasized, “We will do our utmost to strive for the prospect of peaceful reunification. But we will never allow anyone or any force to separate Taiwan from China in any way.”

Trump, speaking last week, recalled his exchange with Xi, quoting the Chinese leader as saying he "will never do" it as long as Trump is in the White House. Trump responded, "Well, I appreciate that," to which Xi replied, "But I am very patient and China is very patient."

Though Washington does not formally recognize Taipei, the U.S. remains Taiwan’s top weapons provider and a key international supporter. Meanwhile, Beijing views the island as a “breakaway province,” a position firmly rejected by Taiwan’s government, which has operated with de facto independence since 1949.
