Provided by AGP"We can't let Iran have a nuclear weapon," Trump said, underscoring his administration’s continued opposition to Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
His comments came shortly after US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that US Navy guided-missile destroyers are operating in the Gulf after passing through the Strait of Hormuz as part of what it described as “Project Freedom,” aimed at ensuring the security of commercial shipping routes and restoring freedom of navigation in the area.
Trump also claimed that Iran’s military capabilities have been significantly weakened, saying: “They have no navy, they have no air force, they have no anti-aircraft equipment, they have no radar... they have no leaders. Actually ... the leaders happen to be gone also, but can't let them have a nuclear weapon.”
He added that he expects gasoline prices to decline “very rapidly” once the conflict with Iran is resolved.
Earlier on Monday, Trump also stated that the US military had destroyed seven Iranian “small boats,” while defending recent US military actions as necessary measures to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
"We had to do this little excursion in Iran," he said.
