Turkish Central Bank Reaffirms Focus on Inflation Control Amid Global Conflicts

(MENAFN) The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye has reiterated that maintaining price stability remains its top priority, stating that ongoing global conflicts do not alter its commitment, even though they continue to influence the disinflation process, according to reports.

The bank’s governor, speaking at a financial summit in Istanbul, noted that the global economy is currently being shaped by heightened geopolitical tensions and rising uncertainty. He emphasized that these developments have made energy markets particularly volatile, with direct consequences for inflation trends worldwide.

He explained that recent increases in energy costs have negatively affected inflation expectations on a global scale and that Türkiye has also experienced the effects through both inflation levels and external balance indicators.

According to his remarks, the impact of recent conflicts was clearly visible in the latest inflation data, with further short-term pressure expected due to energy price movements.

He added that how these developments influence medium-term inflation will depend on the central bank’s monetary policy stance, and that such factors will be carefully assessed in upcoming policy decisions.

Reaffirming the institution’s position, he stated that the central bank’s main objective remains ensuring price stability and that external shocks will not change this focus, even if they complicate the disinflation path.

He also warned that policymakers would not allow recent inflationary pressures to damage the medium-term outlook.

According to reports, he pointed out that geopolitical tensions have driven noticeable increases in energy prices, with oil and natural gas remaining above levels seen before earlier conflicts. While oil price volatility has eased somewhat recently, it still exceeds historical averages, and price increases have also been observed in industrial metals and agricultural commodities alongside energy markets.
